Memorial: Vladimir Zabezhinskiy (1931 - 1998)

On November 29,1998, after a long lasting disease, a member of our editorial office Vladimir Zabezhinskiy passed away.

Vladimir was born in 1931. After graduating from high school, he entered Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute. After graduating from the Institute, Vladimir was sent to one of the southern shipbuilding plants. After returning to Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Vladimir joined the military design office "Swyaz-morproject" where he worked until 1991, practically all his life. In 1995 he came to the USA.

Vladimir impressed all immigrants when at the age of 65 he entered a community college to learn computers. In June 1998 he was the first to write a letter supporting the foundation of our newspaper. His letter should have been to be published earlier, but as there were no space in the newspaper, it is going to be published soon. In his letter he proposed a whole program of how to make newspaper. He devoted a lot of time and energy to do it.

Vladimir wrote a few articles for our newspaper. His article "Biorhythms" was published in the October 1998 issue under the name of Dr. Korvet. The article "How to solve the problem" was proposed by Vladimir at the very beginning. Because he discussed a very important problem, it was saved for a special issue of our newspaper that will be published soon. Vladimir also had written an article for The Kansas City Star about the problems of our newspaper that he proposed to be sent on behalf of our Editorial office. Vladimir passed away and could not see all of his articles published. During the last weeks of his life, Vladimir worked with article about computers for beginners. Unfortunately, he did not complete his work, and our editorial office did not receive this article.

We would like to let you know that Vladimir had a surgery in May 1998, but it was too late to save his life. To the last day of his life he was active and even took part in the first issue of our newspaper in September. His death was an unexpected event for us. We express our deep sympathy to Vladimir's family on the occasion of his death. Memory of Vladimir will be forever in our hearts.
